For all of you natural ladies out there: why did you go natural?
For me, I wanted healthy and strong hair. Relaxing my hair and applying heat to it every day was not working for me. My hair was brittle, burnt, and never grew past a certain length no matter what I did. It was bad to say the least. Ever since I decided to go natural, I have grown to love my hair. It's stronger, thicker, and longer than I have ever seen it. I've said it before and I will say it again:
Going natural was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Now, as much as I love my natural hair, sometimes I need to give it a bit of a boost. I have a hair regimen that I follow based on the seasons (which I will describe in a future post). I also use certain hair products, including a hair creme that I make (another post for another time). But occasionally, even my hair gets a bit...bored.
Yes, I think that's the best way to describe it. Bored.
You see, I have to treat my hair as if we are in a relationship. Yes,a relationship. I have to love my hair and treat it well and take care of it. But sometimes, I have to spice things up in order to keep my hair happy.
Just like how my fiance has to....you know what, never mind.
In case he is reading this, love you Kevin! :)
Anyways, I figured now would be a great time to switch things up a bit with my hair. I'm going to begin a hair growth challenge for the next few months. Along with doing my usual hair routine, I will be using a couple of new products, such as Dawn Ali's Super Growth Hair Oil and Dawn Ali's Super Hair, Skin Nails Veggie Capsules. I was introduced to Dawn's products by a friend of mine and heard nothing but great things. I also love supporting black businesses! She has other products too so if you are interested, check out her online store here! (As of 1/25/2017: If you buy one bottle of hair oil, you get the second one for free! No code necessary! Just check out the link above! Sale ends 1/27/2017).
This hair growth challenge works out perfectly because of two other reasons. One, my wedding is in April (yikes!) so I want my hair stronger and healthier than ever. And two, I accidentally chopped off a piece of my hair while removing crochet braids and I want to see if it will grow back in time for the wedding.
I still don't know how I chopped out that piece of hair. Maybe I had too much wine that night....hmm...
I will be posting updates on this challenge about once a month. Even though my wedding is in April, I'm going to continue the challenge until June. Gotta get my hair right for the summer! The photos in the slideshow above are my hair as of today. Let's see what it looks like come June!
